Dress Code

Students, parents, and staff recognize the importance of appropriate dress and its effect on the learning environment. Audubon school staff has set an acceptable standard for appropriate, safe, clean, and modest clothing. No school uniform is required at this time. During physical education class, students are required to wear gym shoes.

Students who fail to comply with the School Dress Code will be in violation of the Chicago Public Schools Student Code of Conduct.

  1. Clothing which exposes underwear, midriffs or stomachs (including, but not limited to: transparent blouses, crop tops, spaghetti straps, or halter tops) are not allowed. Tank tops for students in grades K-8 must have straps that are at least 1 inch wide.
  2. Blouses that have low necklines or open backs are not allowed.
  3. Shorts and skirts must be at least as long as a student’s finger tips when arms are hung down on sides.
  4. Pajama type clothing and bedroom slippers are not allowed.
  5. Hats are not allowed inside the building.
  6. Items associated with gangs are not permitted.
  7. Clothing which is disruptive to the educational process is not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to: clothes that depict obscene pictures or language; incite hatred or violence; encourage illegal activity; advertise alcohol, drugs, and tobacco products; show disrespect towards any person or group; and pants that hang excessively below the waist (showing underwear) or that are overly baggy or long.
  8. Rubber bands are not permitted to be used to secure pant legs.
  9. Students may not wear any clothing/jewelry that may cause harm to another person.
  10. Coats and jackets may only be worn to and from school and should not be worn during the school day.
