If you were not able to attend Early Registration Days and do not know your child’s teacher or room number, you can find it posted outside the main office in the first floor hallway. In addition, Audubon’s staff will be on hand Tuesday morning inside and outside of all entrances to help direct your child to his or her lineup spot and/or classroom. Kindergartners and grades 5-8 line up at the Hoyne doors. Grades 1-4 line up at Hamilton doors.

Kindergartners and 1st graders can be walked to their classroom on the first day of school if students and parents prefer it. This should only be done in higher grades when necessary.

We are starting our Girls on the Run (3rd-5th) and Girls on Track (NEW THIS YEAR! 6th-8th) the week of Sept. 14th, which will run into November. It will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:45-4pm. We are offering permission slips/informational flyers the first day of school. In lieu of making hundreds of copies, we will have a stack available OUTSIDE the office on the table that girls/parents may pick up. Consent forms are DUE on Thursday, the 9th WITH payment of $25. Checks made out to GIRLS ON THE RUN.

There are only spots available for 15 3rd -5th grade girls (Girls on the Run) and 15 6th-8th grade girls (Girls on Track). The spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Your child will get a letter on the 10th IF they got into the program. The girls on the wait list from last year will automatically be offered a spot first and will get a letter home on the first day of school. They will need to re-submit a consent form, and check.

There will also be a spring session which will start in March. However, we’ll do a sign up for that spring session as to get as many girls in the programs as possible.

We want as many parents to know about this ahead of time so that every girl has equal opportunity to be in the program! Parents, please pass this onto other Audubon parents of girls!

If this fantastic weather we’re having holds out, it will be a perfect night for the 4th annual RVN Family Movie Night on Friday, September 24 at 7:00pm. This event will take place on the front lawn of Audubon School, is free-of-charge and will feature a family-friendly movie (title TBD) on a giant, 9′ x 12′ outdoor screen. All neighborhood families, whether they attend Audubon or not are welcome. Popcorn, soft drinks and cotton candy will be available for $1 each. Audubon Principal John Price will be in attendance and will speak briefly on Audubon’s recent successes and goals.

In the event that the weather does not cooperate, Audubon has agreed to make the gymnasium available. Audubon restrooms will also be available for use during the movie. RVN requests that families with chairs please keep to the back of the viewing area, leaving room for families with blankets in front. Please join us for this wonderful community-building event.

Dear Audubon Parents,

We are looking for a few more parents to lead Class Art Projects for Auction in Audubon Classrooms during the month of October. Days of week and times of day can be coordinated with teachers. If you are interested and have not already volunteered for this initiative for this school year, please reply to this email. Thank you so much for your continued support of this effort.

For parents who are unsure of themselves artistically or need some ideas, we have two new options this year, offered by local art supporters/teachers:

1) Nora from Unicoi Studio, who runs an after school art program at Audubon in addition to her kids’ class studio on Belmont and Hoyne, has come up with the idea of Class Art Nights, during which she will work with a whole class in her studio (Belmont and Hoyne) on a unique art project for auction on a night of your choosing. $10/kid to cover the cost of materials. So all you’d have to do is to invite the whole class, and whoever shows up can collaborate on something special. Another plus is that it doesn’t require class time or coordination with the Audubon classroom teacher.

2) Diane from Go Get Your Smock, who has close ties with Audubon including running the art program for TBPK and a summer art camp at Audubon, has offered to completely guide anyone doing a class art project, including giving them a complete recipe for an art project, a shopping list, and whatever consultation is necessary to make it work. And once you have that, we can find parents in the class to assist you.

Class Art for Auction Co-Chair

The opportunity to sign up for this fun fundraiser/golf event has been extended to this Thursday, August 27. We still need about 10 more people to make this event successful. Please consider joining in on the fun or pulling some friends in to create your own foursome. Also, this event falls on Columbus Day, so this may be a day off of work for some. Detailed invite below.

You are cordially invited to join the 1st Annual golf outing and awards banquet benefiting the Friends of Audubon on Monday, October 11, 2010. Players will enjoy a great day on the course, participate in contests, and enjoy lunch and beverages. Individuals and teams are welcome to join!

Our goal is to provide a fun and enjoyable day of golf, offering a good value to golfers at an affordable price, while concurrently raising funds for a worthwhile cause, promoting our valued sponsors, and encouraging the networking of friends and associates.

We are very excited that with the assistance of member (Audubon Parent) Dave Ericson, Mission Hills Country Club will host our inaugural outing. Mission Hills, a “hidden jewel on the North Shore” is “well maintained and deceptively challenging” and is conveniently located in Northbrook off of 294.

The format is a Four-Person Team Scramble with a Shotgun Start. Awards will be given for Overall Team Scramble Winner (best score), Closest to the Pin, and Longest Drive. Additional details will be forthcoming. The event will cost $215 per individual golfer or $800 per foursome.

This is a perfect opportunity to incorporate your work into your local community. Please reply to Don Lippert at don.lippertjr@gmail.com by Tuesday, August 17th if you are interested. This is not the deadline to sign up, but we need to get an understanding of the demand in order to secure the event.

Thanks,
Don Lippert
Audubon Parent and FoA Board Member
