Everyday Mathematics

The Everyday Mathematics program, developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project, is a core curriculum that enriches the mathematical experiences of teachers and students. Everyday Mathematics encourages teachers and students to explore more of the spectrum of mathematical ideas through a deeper understanding of key mathematical concepts and an in-depth study of all the strands of mathematics. It integrates mathematics into other subject areas so math becomes part of ongoing classroom and external events.

For more information on the Everyday Mathematics Program, visit Everyday Math, a site that provides information about the Math Curriculum used by children in K-5th.

Literature Based

Authentic children’s literature is used to instruct and challenge all students. Teachers utilize small groups, cooperative groups, and individualized instruction to meet the needs of all learners within the classroom. Audubon does not segregate students based upon test scores. We believe that every child is “gifted” and makes valuable contributions to the classroom.

Media

All students are scheduled for Media Center activities for at least one class period per week. The school’s Media Center is located on the third floor west of the auditorium/gym. Library science and technology skills are taught at every grade level. The fully-automated library collection is extensive with books for all ages. The computer lab is equipped with state-of-the-art computers and full access to the internet. In addition, students have access to digital cameras and projectors.
